UK DIGITAL ECONOMY CRUCIBLE 2018

If you are an Early Career Researcher (ECR), post PhD 1-8 years, interested in multidisciplinary research and wanting to boost your career, apply for the UK Digital Economy Crucible 2018. It's an EPSRC-funded unique leadership development programme for ECRs from all disciplines and from all UK universities to develop career-altering skills surrounding digital economy research.

Swansea University is undertaking this UK-wide leadership programme to produce and nurture the next generation of Digital Economy researchers. This initiative is part of CHERISH Digital Economy Research Centre at the University and a network of 6 other Digital Economy Hubs in the UK.
The leadership programme offers a series of residential-based skills labs, held across four cities in the UK to provide exclusive opportunity to interact with crucial actors of digital economy such as industry, including Microsoft, Amazon, NHS, Digital Catapult Centre, DVLA, BBC R&D, Facebook, and Google (tbc); media, including BBC, Channel 4, the Conversation, Wired (tbc); funding bodies, including EPSRC, AHRC & ESRC, Wellcome Trust, Innovate UK; Parliament (Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology), and academic entrepreneurs, and offers an intensive grant writing workshop. The cohort will also be able to pitch for seedcorn research funding through a Dragon's Den funding mechanism chaired by senior academics, industry and EPSRC.

Dates and locations of the skills labs: 17-18 May in Swansea, 14-15 June in Edinburgh, 26-27 July in London, and 1-2 November in Cardiff (Alumni). Participants must attend all skills labs.

UK Digital Economy Crucible will enable you to:
• explore the advantage of working with researchers in other disciplines
• develop skills in engagement with public, media and parliament
• understand how your research can have greater impact
• discover how you can interact more effectively with industry and make real links
• develop a longer-term network of peers within the research community
• introduce you to creative and innovative thinking and improve your effectiveness both within and beyond your organisation

UK Digital Economy Crucible is unique because:
• it is open to all UK universities
• funded and supported via the RCUK (EPSRC)

• offers real connection with our industry partners
• successful Crucible applicants can access other CHERISH-DE funding (up to £15k) working with Swansea University academics after the Crucible programme ends
